Q: Is Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) training mandatory?
A: EPFA is required for some early years practitioners. Staff who obtained a Level 2 or Level 3 early years qualification on or after 30 June 2016 must obtain either a full Paediatric First Aid (PFA) or Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) certificate within three months of starting work to be included in the relevant staff:child ratios. Early years settings must still have at least one person with a current full PFA certificate available whenever children are present and accompanying children on outings. GOV.UK

Q: How long is an EPFA course?
A: Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid course involves 6 hours of training and can be completed face-to-face or through our blended-learning option.

Q: How long is an EPFA certificate valid?
A: Paediatric first aid training must be renewed every 3 years. Refresher training during the three-year certification period can also help maintain skills and confidence. GOV.UK

Q: What is the difference between EPFA and PFA?
A: EPFA focuses on the essential emergency first aid skills needed when caring for babies and children. Full Paediatric First Aid (PFA) provides more comprehensive training and involves a minimum of 12 hours of training. If you're unsure which course your role or setting requires, contact us, and we'll help you understand the options.

Q: Do you offer blended EPFA training?
A: Yes. Learners complete the online learning before attending an instructor-led practical session. Both elements must be completed to complete the course.

Q: Can you deliver EPFA training on-site?
A: Yes. We can deliver Emergency Paediatric First Aid training at schools, nurseries, workplaces and other settings across Greater Manchester.

Q: Do learners receive certificates?
A: Yes. Learners who successfully complete the course and required assessment receive an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate valid for 3 years.

Q: Is EPFA suitable for nursery and early years staff?
A: Yes, EPFA may be suitable for some nursery and early years staff. However, the EYFS also requires at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate to be available whenever children are present and to accompany children on outings. The appropriate course therefore depends on the individual's role and the setting's requirements.
